The sons of Iker Casillas, Martín (12 years old) and Lucas (10 years old), are joining the youth academy of CD Leganés. Both are goalkeepers, like their father.
According to Leganés Activo, brothers Martín Casillas and Lucas Casillas will play for the youth team of CD Leganés. The club had already announced the signing, and the decision was reportedly made by the children themselves along with their close circle.
The two come from the youth academy of Real Madrid, where they had been training for two years in the lower categories. Their joining adds to that of Luca Zidane, who had signed with the first team of Leganés days earlier, confirming the club's commitment to young players with well-known surnames in football.
Martín and Lucas are goalkeepers, the same position as their father, and they want to follow in his footsteps on the pitch. Iker Casillas has commented on his sons' decision:
If they want to be goalkeepers, of course they can, as long as they are good people and choose that.
The former goalkeeper has also acknowledged the challenges of growing up with a famous father: “you will always be compared.”
For her part, Sara Carbonero has shared her thoughts on the goalkeeper position in another interview, stating that “the goalkeeper is the most thankless position in the world.” Martín Casillas, in his first interview, has requested not to be compared: “I am Martín Casillas, I am the son, but I want to make my own career, I don’t want to be compared.”
