The Community of Madrid will extend the network by 32 kilometres and six stations on Line 10 to Móstoles. Line 6 will operate without interruption on weekends after its automation.
The president of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, announced this Tuesday in the Assembly of Madrid the largest expansion of the Metro network in recent years, with 32 new kilometres and a total investment exceeding 1.09 billion euros. The information, revealed by La Razón, details that the projects will be developed between 2027 and 2034 and will affect the municipalities of Móstoles, Leganés, and Boadilla del Monte, as well as the Madrid neighbourhood of Las Tablas.
The main action is the extension of Line 10 from Puerta del Sur to Móstoles, covering 6.5 kilometres and six stations. The planned investment is 1.05 billion euros. Technical studies will begin between 2027 and 2029, and the works will be carried out between 2030 and 2034. In the south, Line 11 will extend in Leganés from La Fortuna to Poza del Agua, as part of the "great diagonal" of 33 kilometres that will connect the region.
In the capital, Line 1 will add 1.5 kilometres and two stations to serve Las Tablas, with a budget of 15 million euros and construction planned between 2030 and 2032. The Light Metro Line 3 will grow another 1.5 kilometres towards Valenoso, in Boadilla del Monte, with an investment of 25 million euros.
The most immediate change for users will be Line 6, which will provide 24-hour service during weekends. It will operate continuously from the start of activity on Friday until the closure on Sunday, once the comprehensive automation process of the line is completed. The measure will benefit over 430,000 daily travellers and strengthen the main intermodality axis of the network, with direct connections to another ten Metro lines, five transport interchanges, the Cercanías network, and the South Bus Station.
Night mobility in the capital will experience a true revolution
Until now, the extension of hours on the subway had only occurred exceptionally during specific events, such as the Champions League final in 2010, the World Pride in 2017, or the Mad Cool festival.
In terms of housing, the regional government will build more than 3,000 new affordable rental homes, launch a comprehensive rehabilitation plan for the residential stock, and create the first regional map of unused or uninhabited properties. Under the Pive Plan, homes will be reserved for members of the State Security Forces to encourage their permanence in the capital. Young people under 35 will also benefit: the region has reserved 120 properties near the Infanta Sofía Hospital in San Sebastián de los Reyes. The goal is to promote over 70,000 homes with some form of protection during this legislature and lay the groundwork for 280,000 in the next fifteen years.
