The Rivas City Council has participated in the demolition of several shanties in Sector 4 of Cañada Real. Their occupants have taken advantage of the relocations from the Regional Pact.
According to Noticias para Municipios, the Rivas City Council participated this Tuesday in the demolition of several shanties in Sector 4 of Cañada Real. Their occupants had ceded the land to the Community of Madrid, the owner of the plots, and had taken advantage of the relocations provided for in the Regional Pact of Cañada Real.
The City Council provided social support to the families who had requested housing to leave the settlement. Once they were moved to their new homes, the structures were demolished to prevent them from being occupied again.
The spokesperson for the municipal government, José Luis Alfaro, reminded that access to decent housing is one of the guarantees of the pact and stated:
To think that people without resources must live in worse conditions and be condemned to have their families in shanties that do not meet the minimum safety or quality requirements is a profoundly racist attitude.
Alfaro defended the right to decent housing for all people, especially for those in situations of social exclusion.
In the last two weeks, the City Council and the Social Housing Agency of the Community of Madrid have provided housing to four families from Cañada Real so they can start a new chapter outside the settlement. A new agreement between both institutions will continue to process the relocation requests from families wishing to develop their life projects outside the area.
On the other hand, the City Council filed several reports this Tuesday against occupants for dumping hazardous waste, including asbestos. It also recovered an abandoned plot, at the request of the Community of Madrid, to clean, decontaminate, renaturalise, and subsequently allocate it for public use.
The City Council assures that it informs local associations and entities in the area before any action in Cañada Real through the monitoring table. This Tuesday, early in the morning, it communicated the intervention through the usual channels.
