The Community of Madrid extends the €14,500 birth aid to women up to 35 having a third child. The measure will be incorporated into the 2027/31 Birth Strategy and modifies the required income limit.
The president of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, will announce during the first day of the State of the Region Debate the expansion of birth aids. Mothers of up to 35 years inclusive who have their third child will be able to access the €14,500 benefit that was previously reserved for women under 30, according to esdiario.com.
The new benefit will be incorporated into the 2027/31 Birth Strategy of the regional government. The aid consists of €500 monthly that mothers can receive from week 21 of pregnancy until the child turns two years old, totalling €14,500 per child. The benefit also extends to cases of adoption.
With the expansion, mothers up to 35 years old who have their third child will be able to benefit from this aid, although the maximum income limit required will also be modified for this new measure. Currently, women up to 30 years old must meet certain economic requirements: €30,000 individual income or €36,200 for the family unit.
Since the aid was launched in January 2022, the Community of Madrid has allocated €361.1 million to this benefit and has reached 31,157 women. The regional government's forecasts include continuing to expand the number of beneficiaries in the coming years. By 2027, the regional executive estimates that there will be more than 45,000 beneficiary mothers, with a cumulative investment reaching €500 million.
The announcement comes alongside another measure related to families and birth rates. The Madrid government has approved a law that recognises the unborn conceived as a member of the family unit, allowing it to be taken into account from the moment of conception to access certain benefits.
The measure will have effects on those aids and benefits where the per capita income of the family unit is assessed. These include study scholarships, school meal aids, Early Childhood Education, young rental assistance, and the birth promotion measures themselves.
One of the main effects will be for families who already have two children and are expecting a third. With the new regulation, they will be considered large families from week 15 of gestation, which will allow them to access the advantages associated with this status earlier. Among those benefits are tax advantages, transport discounts, educational aids, and price reductions in sports and cultural facilities.
The announced expansion is part of a broader strategy to support families, with measures aimed at promoting work-life balance, supporting those who decide to start a family, and reinforcing aid aimed at maternity, paternity, and large families.
