The Formula 1 Grand Prix in Madrid recorded a 7.1% share on Telecinco, while La Vuelta cycling event reached 17.2% on La 1 of TVE in a similar time slot.

The debut of Formula 1 in Madrid did not receive the expected support in front of the television. The broadcast of the Spanish Grand Prix on Telecinco achieved a 7.1% audience share, a figure that contrasts with the 17.2% achieved by La Vuelta a España on La 1 of TVE during a similar time frame, according to elconstitucional.es.

This result marks another setback for the Mediaset channel, whose average audience on Saturday was just 6.6%. The gap between the two sporting events exceeds ten share points.

Formula 1 is one of the key projects of the Community of Madrid and its president, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, who has publicly defended the arrival of the Grand Prix to the capital. The president herself questioned the public broadcaster's coverage on her X account.

It is shameful the coverage that the public television (TVE) is giving to the Spanish Grand Prix of Formula 1

Díaz Ayuso was at the MADRING circuit on Saturday during the qualifying day. Upon her arrival, she took a tour of the track aboard the Safety Car and then visited the garage, where she met with the Madrid-born driver Carlos Sainz, ambassador of the circuit, and members of his team. She also toured the stands of the venue.

The television impact of the race fell short of the expectations generated by Madrid's debut as a host. With a 7.1% on Telecinco, the event was far from the 17.2% of La Vuelta on La 1, which more than doubled its share.
