Around 600 people, according to the Government Delegation, have marched through central Madrid to Cibeles to denounce the use of force in the eviction of the camp at Puerta del Sol.

About 600 people, according to figures from the Government Delegation, demonstrated this Tuesday in central Madrid against the actions of the National Police during the eviction of the camp at Puerta del Sol, as reported by La Razón.

The march started from Puerta del Sol and reached Cibeles, where participants sat down in the street as a sign of rejection to the operation. The protesters denounce an "excessive" use of force and demand explanations for the intervention.

Diana Soler, one of the representatives of Acampada 26S, claimed that the officers did not give participants enough time to leave the area:

not even half an hour to get out

The camp was set up on September 26 at the zero kilometre point of Madrid to demand solutions to the housing crisis and denounce evictions. Its origin lies in the case of Maricarmen Abascal, an 87-year-old woman who lived in the same rented house for seven decades and died after being evicted.

At Cibeles, the protesters held a minute of silence in memory of Maricarmen Abascal. The route was guarded by more than a dozen vans from the National Police.

According to the Government Delegation, the officers fired some warning shots to disperse part of the crowd. By late evening, the Delegation indicated that calm had returned to Puerta del Sol.
