The private accusations have submitted a new document detailing over 1,800 instances of degrading treatment towards children under three years old. The judge expanded the investigation in June to 352 incidents.
According to El Mundo, the private accusations have filed a document in court that raises the number of degrading treatment sequences against children under three years old at the nursery Pecas de Pozuelo de Alarcón to over 1,800, which has been under investigation for alleged mistreatment since November 2023. The document is dated 23 October 2026.
The judge overseeing the case, María del Carmen Neira, expanded the investigated incidents in her ruling on 11 June 2026 to 352, up from the 350 identified by the Judicial Police. The parties involved later detected other incidents not included in the reports. The parents' documents, submitted days before that ruling, already indicated 499 aggressive events.
The documents describe pinching on the face, shaking children who are sleeping, slapping, and confinement in dark rooms. The recordings, obtained from 10 cameras of video surveillance between 08:00 and 18:00 over two months, show two workers as the main protagonists, although there are at least seven accused in the case.
One of the investigated workers appealed the expansion of the incidents, and the Madrid Prosecutor's Office joined that appeal on 1 October. In its document, the prosecutor argues that the expansion "should not be generic" and must specify which incidents are new, to whom they are attributed, and regarding which victim. There has not yet been a ruling from the judge on the new requests to expand the case.
The nursery closed in February 2024 due to urban irregularities. For the residents of Pozuelo de Alarcón, the procedure remains open, and the magistrate must decide whether to accept the new requests before the police analysis phase progresses.
