The National Police continues the search for Roberto Fernández, an 84-year-old resident of Torrejón de Ardoz with Alzheimer's who was last seen on the morning of September 7. The main hypothesis of the investigators suggests that his son, aged 51, ended his life and then disposed of the body by throwing it into the rubbish bins, according to ABC.
The son was arrested on September 16 for his alleged involvement in the case, charged with homicide. The investigation is being conducted by the Group XII of the Judicial Police Brigade of Madrid, specialised in kidnappings, extortions, and disappearances, along with the Group of Crimes against Persons from the Torrejón de Ardoz police station.
From the very beginning, the agents described the disappearance as "disturbing" and did not rule out indications of criminality. During the inspection of the home shared by father and son, they found traces of blood that could be linked to a homicide, despite the suspect having cleaned the house.
The Police have requested to seal the rubbish collected in Torrejón to locate remains of the body, in addition to tracking the mobile phone of the detainee and reviewing the security cameras in the area. The agents' dogs have yet to find any trace of Roberto Fernández.
The report of the disappearance indicated that the father was becoming increasingly disoriented. On September 7, he left home, and when a niece visited the house, the now-investigated son told her that he had hit his head and that he had put a bandage on it, an explanation that could serve to justify the blood found in the bathroom.
