The extension of Line 10 from Puerta del Sur to Móstoles adds 6.5 kilometres and six stations, with an investment of €1.05 billion. Móstoles celebrates this while Alcorcón demands that the route reaches the Ensanche Sur.
Line 10 of the Metro will reach Móstoles from Puerta del Sur in Alcorcón, with 6.5 kilometres of new track, six stations, and an estimated investment of €1.05 billion. The announcement was made by the President of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, during the Debate on the State of the Region, as reported by Cadena SER.
The planned schedule sets the studies and project drafting between 2027 and 2029, while the construction works would take place between 2030 and 2034. The route plans for the line to reach Manuela Malasaña, in the south of Móstoles.
The mayor of Móstoles, Manuel Bautista, has described the announcement as a "great day" for the city and thanked the Community of Madrid for responding to a historic demand. He believes that the infrastructure will transform mobility and improve connections with Madrid for thousands of residents.
In Alcorcón, the mayor Candelaria Testa has emphasised that the extension should not overlook the needs of her municipality. She recalls that the city has been demanding the extension through the Ensanche Sur for over a decade, where more than 20,000 people live, and that the request was reiterated to the Community in January of this year.
Today, President Ayuso promises us that by around 2034 we will have the line that Alcorcón has requested for so long, and she also focuses on Móstoles, in a clear operation to save soldier Bautista, to elevate the image of a mayor who is accused of both sexual and labour harassment
Testa recalls that just a few months ago, the regional government's response was that the extension to Móstoles was not a priority action "either in the short or medium term." She now views the change in position as positive but demands that the announcement translates into concrete decisions, budget, and timeline. The PSOE has been advocating in the Assembly of Madrid for years, through amendments to the regional budgets, for the extension through the Ensanche Sur.
In Móstoles, neighbourhood associations celebrate the Community's change of position, although they maintain the demand that deadlines be met. The United Neighbours Association for PAU-4 describes the announcement as a "great piece of news", especially because the planned route includes reaching Manuela Malasaña, and highlights the mobility issues in the southern part of the municipality, around Parque Miraflores and the connections of the M-506 with the M-50.
The group calls for the studies, project drafting, and subsequent tendering to be expedited to avoid the infrastructure being shelved again, and urges the Móstoles City Council to advance in connecting this area with the R-5.
From the El Soto Neighbours Association, its president, Ricardo Zamora, recalls that the arrival of Line 10 has been on the table for over 25 years. In 2000, local groups organised demonstrations in the streets of Móstoles and created a "virtual stop" to highlight their demand. Zamora celebrates that the extension is back on the agenda but insists that this time the project must become a reality and not suffer delays again.
The announcement marks a shift from the position held until a few months ago. While Móstoles emphasises the celebration of a historic demand, Alcorcón insists that the future route must also address the mobility needs of the Ensanche Sur and that the announced commitments be accompanied by a budget.
