Ten days to create video games about trades and businesses in Madrid at the eighth Game Jam Madrid Crea, starting this Friday.
The eighth edition of the Game Jam Madrid Crea kicks off this Friday 16th October and runs until 25th October. According to uVejuegos, the event is organised by DEV (Spanish Video Game Development) and the Department of Culture, Tourism and Sport of the Community of Madrid, in collaboration with the University of Design, Innovation and Technology (UDIT).
Creators of any experience level can participate, and they will need to develop games inspired by the culture, history, and nature of the region. This year's theme is trades, businesses, and knowledge from Madrid, ranging from night watchmen and candy sellers to the centuries-old shops in the centre and the Rastro, the pottery tradition of Alcorcón, the stone masons of Alpedrete, or the agricultural and livestock knowledge of rural municipalities.
The online mode is open to participants from all over Spain. The in-person option is available and takes place at UDIT's facilities on 16th and 17th October. The opening event will be held on Friday at 17:00 at that venue, with DEV and the Department, followed by a guided bus tour taking attendees to the Museum of Arts and Popular Traditions of Lavapiés.
Teams will create their video games over the ten days and upload them to the Itch.io platform. A jury of four industry professionals will play and evaluate the eight finalist games. Among its members are Dánae Forrellat, director of HappyPathLAB; Jesús Bosch, general director of Product Madness, and Luis Sagastibelza, coordinator of the Official Degree in Game Design and Development at UDIT.
