The Community of Madrid offers over 200 free environmental activities this autumn, as reported by masvive.com. The proposals will take place on weekends and holidays in October, November, and December at its nine Environmental Education Centres, including the Arboreto Luis Ceballos in San Lorenzo de El Escorial.
The programme includes games, workshops, trails, exhibitions, and days focused on forest management and biodiversity. Some activities require prior booking, which can be done through the website of the Community's Network of Environmental Education Centres.
The participating centres are El Águila, in Chapinería; the Arboreto Luis Ceballos; El Campillo, in Rivas Vaciamadrid; Caserío de Henares, in San Fernando de Henares; Valle del Lozoya, in Garganta de los Montes; Hayedo de Montejo, in Montejo de la Sierra; Guadarrama Río Arena, in Arroyomolinos, and Polvoranca and Bosque Sur, in Leganés.
Among the upcoming events, on 24 and 25 October, El Águila will organise two routes to discover the lime kilns of Quijorna and the corners of Cadalso de los Vidrios. On 22 November, at Bosquesur, the activity 'The trees give acorns' will explain the holm oaks and cork oaks and their adaptation to cold and dry environments.
Some routes allow leashed dogs that meet health requirements and do not present socialisation issues, marked with the pet-friendly seal. The Halloween and Christmas programmes include, among others, a scavenger hunt at the Arboreto Luis Ceballos on 27 December.
Additionally, four visitor centres on the Madrid side of the Guadarrama National Park (La Pedriza, Valle de la Fuenfría, Valle del Paular, and Peñalara) offer guided routes, with details available on the park's website.
