Madrid celebrates a new edition of the Autumn Fair of Old and Antique Books, which this year marks its 36th edition. Organised by the Association of Old Booksellers (Libris) in collaboration with the City Council of Madrid, the event will take place at the Paseo de Recoletos from September 24 to October 12. A total of 34 Spanish bookstores will set up their stalls along the section of the Paseo del Prado between Cibeles and calle Almirante. The offerings include everything from second-hand books at affordable prices to first editions, signed books, manuscripts, engravings, magazines, children's books, rare editions, and incunabula. The organisers estimate that more than half a million books will be available for sale, with prices starting at one euro.
The visiting hours will be Sunday to Thursday, from 11:00 to 20:30, and Fridays and Saturdays, from 11:00 to 21:00.
The writer Luis Landero will deliver the inaugural speech on Thursday, September 24 at 21:00 in the Valle-Inclán Hall of the Círculo de Bellas Artes. The event will be presented by Jesús Marchamalo and access will be by invitation only.

As is customary, the fair will feature its literary deck, this time dedicated to the Generation of '27. Designed by the Madrid painter and illustrator Fernando Vicente and produced by Naipes Heraclio Fournier, the deck consists of 55 cards and will be available for purchase at the information stall. It features writers and poets such as Federico García Lorca, Rafael Alberti, and Vicente Aleixandre, alongside female figures like María Zambrano, Rosa Chacel, and Las Sinsombrero. It also includes artists like Ángeles Santos, Benjamín Palencia, and Delhy Tejero, as well as filmmakers like Luis Buñuel and Edgar Neville. The introductory card includes a text by Juan Manuel Bonet.
Fernando Vicente is also the author of the poster for this edition, an allegory of reading that depicts a woman reading a copy of Don Quixote while a tower made of books rises above her head. The work, created in oil on board, evokes the world of old books and aesthetically recalls art deco.
The programme is completed with A Song to the Book, a photomontage by José Manuel Ballester, National Photography Award winner in 2010 and National Engraving Award winner in 1999. The exhibition features images of libraries such as the Real Gabinete Portugués de Leitura, the Morgan Library in New York, the National Library of Beijing, the Monastery of San Lorenzo de El Escorial, and the University of Salamanca, accompanied by texts from Juan Manuel Bonet. It will be on display at the information stall of the fair.
