Espacio Torrelodones Shopping Centre displays 70 items from Spanish and global athletes until November 15. The exhibition is organised by the Town Hall and can be visited from 12.00 to 21.00 hours.
Until November 15, the Espacio Torrelodones Shopping Centre hosts the exhibition Women Legends of Sport, promoted by the Town Hall of Torrelodones through its Department of Culture. According to information from Telemadrid, the exhibition brings together 70 items from Spanish and global athletes and is produced by the Sports Museum Association.
The pieces are linked to the careers of their owners. Among them are the first Olympic torch that passed through Spain on its way to Mexico 1968 and the last one that lit a cauldron in Spanish territory on the way to Athens 2004. The curation is led by Alfonso Noáin.
The exhibition also recalls the four Olympic bids from Madrid, featuring an original dossier and copies of the voting results, as well as the Barcelona 92 Olympic Games, with the podium shirt of Miriam Blasco and the tracksuit of Mercedes Coghen. The display includes items from Theresa Zabell, Lydia Valentín, Ruth Beitia, Carolina Marín, María Pérez, Blanca Fernández Ochoa, and Teresa Perales, as well as shirts from Alexia Putellas and Olga Carmona.
A section dedicated to international legends includes a jersey from Simone Biles and a shirt from Megan Rapinoe.
The mayor, Almudena Negro, inaugurated the exhibition and explained that the aim is:
to continue supporting sport in general, and women's sport in particular; to give it visibility and contribute to more women finding in sport a space of equal opportunities and personal growth.
The exhibition can be visited at the Espacio Torrelodones Shopping Centre from 12.00 to 21.00 hours until November 15.
