The Paseo de Recoletos has hosted the 36th Autumn Fair of Old and Antique Books since September 24, which will remain open until October 12, 2026. The event features over half a million copies, with prices starting at one euro and a selection that includes first editions, incunabula, original manuscripts, engravings, and rare editions. The list of exhibitors published by LIBRIS includes 32 specialised bookstores, of which 19 are from Madrid. Establishments from Valencia, Barcelona, Segovia, Huesca, Salamanca, and Bilbao are also participating.
Visiting hours are from Sunday to Thursday, 11:00 to 20:30. On Fridays and Saturdays, the stalls extend their opening hours until 21:00. The stalls are set up along the Paseo de Recoletos, which is accessible by Metro, Cercanías, and various bus lines.
The Madrid illustrator Fernando Vicente designed the poster for this edition, featuring a woman reading while a tower of Babel made of books rises above her head. The volume she holds refers to the first edition of Don Quixote de la Mancha.
The 2026 edition also includes a literary deck dedicated to the Generation of '27, featuring 55 cards illustrated by Vicente and texts by Juan Manuel Bonet. Among the figures represented are Federico García Lorca, Rafael Alberti, María Zambrano, and Rosa Chacel.
Recoletos also hosted another antique book fair this spring, keeping this promenade as one of the regular venues for such events in the capital.
The fair closes on October 12. Those wishing to visit can come without a ticket or reservation during the usual stall hours, with extended opening on Fridays and Saturdays until 21:00.
