The Colombian artist performs at the Shakira Stadium in Villaverde from September 18 to October 11. The concerts are spread over four weekends, and more than 600,000 attendees are expected.
Shakira concludes her European tour Women No Longer Cry with 12 concerts in Madrid, taking place between September 18 and October 11. The performances are held at the temporary venue Shakira Stadium, located in Iberdrola Music, in the Villaverde district, with a capacity of around 55,000 people per day. The organisers expect to exceed 600,000 attendees in total, according to prensamercosur.org.
The 12 shows are distributed over four weekends, concentrating the influx of the public around the venue during those dates.
In addition to the concerts, the residency includes Macondo Park, a temporary cultural city inspired by the universe of Gabriel García Márquez. The space brings together music, gastronomy, literature, fashion, and Latin American art, and operates for much of the day, beyond the hours of each performance.
The Colombian presence plays a significant role in the programme: 130 creators from the Carnival of Barranquilla have travelled to Madrid for a parade of over 1.5 kilometres featuring cumbia, marimondas, garabato, mapalé, and congo. Those attending the concerts will encounter these expressions of Colombian Caribbean culture around the venue.
For those travelling to Madrid with tickets already purchased and free days around the concerts, the platform Civitatis has prepared five plans. A free tour lasting about two hours covers Puerta del Sol, Plaza Mayor, Plaza de Oriente, Royal Palace, Plaza de la Villa, and Mercado de San Miguel, fitting into a morning before an evening concert.
Another option combines the Prado Museum and the Royal Palace in one day, featuring works by Velázquez, Goya, Bosch, Rubens, and El Greco alongside spaces like the Throne Room, leaving the night free for the show. The neighbourhoods of Lavapiés and La Latina offer a route through markets, taverns, and squares away from the major monuments.
To continue with music but change the style, the tablao Torres Bermejas schedules an hour of singing, guitar, and flamenco dancing in a space inspired by the Alhambra, the stage for the meeting between Camarón de la Isla and Paco de Lucía. With an additional day, Toledo is about 70 kilometres from Madrid and preserves the legacy of Christian, Jewish, and Muslim cultures.
Madrid has direct flights from Bogotá, making it easier to organise the trip around the specific dates of each concert. Colombia has a visa waiver agreement with the European Union for short tourist stays, meaning a Colombian can enter Spain without a prior visa for such a trip, although it is advisable to check current immigration requirements before purchasing tickets.
A major event can be the reason to set a date for a trip, but the experience doesn’t have to begin or end on stage," said Nicolás Posse from Civitatis.
