The jurist from Santiago de Compostela, Carlos Lema Devesa, received the Cruz de Honor de la Orden de San Raimundo de Peñafort in Madrid on Tuesday, one of the main distinctions from the Ministry of Justice. The event took place in the old Paraninfo of the Complutense University and was presided over by Minister Félix Bolaños.
The jurist from Santiago de Compostela Carlos Lema Devesa received the Cruz de Honor de la Orden de San Raimundo de Peñafort in Madrid on Tuesday, one of the main distinctions awarded by the Ministry of Justice to recognise merits and services rendered in the legal field. The award ceremony, as reported by elcorreogallego.es, was held in the old Paraninfo of the Complutense University of Madrid.
The event was presided over by the Minister of the Presidency, Justice and Relations with the Courts, Félix Bolaños, and was attended by senior officials from the Ministry. The distinction awarded to Lema Devesa had been approved last year.
In that award, the jurist was one of four individuals recognised with the Cruz de Honor, alongside Eugenio López Álvarez, María Pilar de la Oliva Marrades, and Remei Soriano Campos.
The Cruz de Honor occupies one of the highest ranks within the Order of San Raimundo de Peñafort, created to distinguish services rendered to Justice and recognise contributions to the study and development of Law. Within its different categories, it is situated immediately below the Grand Cross.
The Order rewards, among other merits, the outstanding careers of professionals linked to the Administration of Justice, as well as contributions to legal research, legislation, jurisprudence, and the improvement of Law.
Born in Santiago de Compostela, Carlos Lema Devesa studied Law at the Universidade de Santiago de Compostela, where he graduated in 1973 with an Extraordinary Degree Award. He also completed his doctoral thesis at the same institution, focused on exclusive tone advertising, obtaining his doctorate in 1979.
His university career continued later in Madrid. In 1981, he obtained a position as an associate professor of Advertising Law at the Complutense University, and two years later, he became a professor of Commercial Law at the same institution.
