A 51-year-old man suffered a cardiac arrest this Saturday on Realejos Street in Madrid and survived because his relatives began resuscitation following the instructions of 112. The information comes from madridactual.es, which reports the incident.
According to Emergencias Comunidad de Madrid, the companions maintained basic resuscitation for about ten minutes until the Summa team arrived.
The medical staff continued with advanced life support, stabilised the patient, and transferred him in a mobile ICU to Hospital Ramón y Cajal. A spokesperson for 112 indicated that he has a good prognosis.
Emergencies highlights the importance of the chain of survival and starting the procedures as soon as possible, as chest compressions maintain circulation and oxygen reaches the organs until professionals arrive.
If a person is unconscious and not breathing normally, one should call 112 and begin chest compressions following the instructions of the call handler, known as telephone CPR.
The technique involves placing interlocked hands in the centre of the chest and performing between 100 and 120 compressions per minute, with a depth of about five centimetres.
