The City Council presents the fifth edition of 'Something is Cooking in Madrid' at the Donostia festival. The city allocates three million euros annually for direct aid and hosted 71 film shoots in 2025.
The City Council of Madrid presented on Monday at the San Sebastián Festival the fifth edition of 'Something is Cooking in Madrid', the annual event where the capital showcases public aid and support programmes for the audiovisual sector to national and international producers. The event, as reported by madrid-destino.com, is driven by the Delegated Area of Tourism and Mayor's Coordination along with the Community of Madrid and is supported by the Madrid Audiovisual Cluster and Iberseries & Platino Industria.
The meeting detailed the three lines of direct aid that the City Council maintains for the development, production, and promotion of projects. These grants have an annual budget of three million euros, which can be increased to five. In 2026, a third specific line for the development of series from the city has been launched.
The director of Madrid Film Office, Raúl Torquemada, spoke at the event to review the municipal support throughout the entire process of creating an audiovisual work, from development to distribution, and highlighted the variety of locations offered by the 21 districts of the capital.
Madrid offers a diversity of landscapes, stories, and possibilities through its 21 districts,” stated Torquemada during his speech.
Filming data supports this level of activity. The Urbanism, Environment, and Mobility Area processed over 11,000 filming requests throughout the capital last year. In 2025, the city hosted more than 1,000 projects of medium and large scale, including 52 series and at least 71 films, a record number surpassing the 47 filmed in 2022.
Of the productions supported by the City Council, 7 films are present at this edition of the San Sebastián Festival and 13 were filmed in the city last year. The City Council has also highlighted training programmes such as the Academy of Cinema Residencies, now in its eighth edition, and the international workshop SeriesLab from TorinoFilmLab, as well as co-production forums like ECAM Forum and Iberseries & Platino Industria.
The municipal agenda at the festival includes the presentation of the sixth edition of Iberseries & Platino Industria, which will take place from 29 September to 2 October at Matadero Madrid. Madrid Film Office is also holding meetings with representatives from the Spanish and international industry during the festival.
