FAADA, Purina Spain, the Alicia Alcocer Koplowitz Foundation, and the Community of Madrid have signed an agreement to donate food to animals of users of four social dining rooms. Already, 51 families and more than 20 animals have been assisted.
The Foundation for Advice and Action in Defence of Animals (FAADA), Purina Spain, the Alicia Alcocer Koplowitz Foundation, and the Community of Madrid have signed a collaboration agreement to strengthen the Better Friends programme, as reported by faada.org. The agreement aims to protect the bond between people and animals in vulnerable situations and facilitate access to food for the pets of those who attend four social dining rooms in the region.
Purina Spain commits to making quarterly food donations for dogs and cats of the users of the dining rooms Calle Canarias, Plaza Elíptica, San José, and Santa Isabel, all in the Community of Madrid. Meanwhile, the Alicia Alcocer Koplowitz Foundation will finance veterinary emergencies and other actions that cannot be covered due to lack of resources.
Since the launch of this collaboration, 51 families have already been assisted and more than 20 animals have accessed balanced nutrition. The programme, which is nationwide, has been supported since 2023 by the Ministry of Social Rights, Consumer Affairs, and the 2030 Agenda.
The agreement also includes the creation of a census to understand the reality of people in poverty or social exclusion who live with animals and to contribute to the development of resources and policies more suited to their needs.
We work alongside social services teams to facilitate access for people and their animals to the available resources,” FAADA states.
The initiative aims to prevent a situation of vulnerability from forcing people to separate from their animals and to ensure that these are recognised as part of the family and emotional environment. The participating social dining rooms in the Community of Madrid will channel donations through their social services teams.
