The Civil Guard recreated on Tuesday how the alleged perpetrators of the murder of an 80-year-old woman on her estate in Galapagar might have escaped, which occurred in May, according to the armed institute. Investigators are requesting public cooperation to identify the suspects in the death of the woman who was the heiress of the historic Madrid store Almacenes Cobian, in the square of Pontejos.
The events took place in the early hours of May 6 on the victim's estate, located on Mandril Street in the residential area of La Navata, in Galapagar. At least three people broke into the property and, after gagging, tying up, and assaulting the elderly woman, inflicted injuries that cost her life.
Hours later, around 9:40, several workers on the estate noticed that a window of the house was broken and attempted unsuccessfully to contact the owner. They then called the victim's lawyer, who had keys to the home and managed to open the door. Inside, he found the lifeless body of the woman.
Emergency services from Summa 112 arrived at the scene, who could only confirm the death. Although the interior of the property was ransacked, no valuable items were reported missing, suggesting that the assault may have been motivated by the existence of a possible safe where the elderly woman kept money.
Initial estimates indicated that the suspects might have escaped through the main door they had previously entered, but investigations now suggest they may have left the site through a side access to the estate. From there, they would have moved a few meters to a path along the Guadarrama river.
In that area, investigators have located several cigarette butts that are being analysed by forensic experts. It is unknown what steps the alleged murderers took next: they could have walked to the centre of Galapagar or gotten into a car that was waiting for them. What is known is that moments later, there are security camera records at a petrol station at the entrance to the town showing some suspects.
The Civil Guard Command has requested public cooperation to clarify the crime. They urge anyone who may have relevant information or suspicions about anything unusual that occurred that day to report it to the armed institute via the phone number 696 924 225.
