Madrid City Council tenders the operation of the Amusement Park until 2035. It requires investments of at least 15 million, an annual fee of 400,000 euros and 8% of revenue.
The Madrid City Council has opened the competition to select the next operator of the Amusement Park, whose current concession expires in September 2027. According to elDiario.es, interested companies must commit to invest between 15 and 40 million euros, maintain the contracts of the 249 workers, and pay an annual fee of at least 400,000 euros, in addition to 8% of all income from the venue.
The proposal for new attractions will be the most significant criterion in the award process. 80% of the investment must be allocated to modernising or creating attractions, and the rest to improving accessibility and energy savings. Most of that money must be spent in the first three years of operation, which will extend until 5 October 2035, when all facilities will become municipal property.
The minimum fee set by the Government Area of José Luis Martínez-Almeida is 400,000 euros per year for operating the 200,000 square metres of the park, plus 8% of annual income from ticket sales, restaurants, shops, and space rentals. Companies may offer higher amounts. Discounts for certain groups and other free services will also be valued, albeit with less weight.
Another requirement is to take over the contracts of the 249 current employees, of which 222 are permanent and 27 are fixed-term. Their salaries total more than five million euros a year. Additionally, applicants must demonstrate experience in managing theme parks or similar venues with at least half a million annual visitors and a turnover exceeding 13 million euros per year, which reduces the number of potential candidates. The current manager, Parques Reunidos, could apply for an extension.
The deadline for submitting offers is three months, until mid-December. The City Council expects the new concession to start on 28 September 2027. By then, the council hopes to have a clear idea of the future of the commercial spaces in Casa de Campo, as the zoo's current operation also ends around that time.
The park, inaugurated on 15 May 1969, has more than 30 attractions and receives nearly a million visitors a year, half that of Parque Warner. Four attractions remain closed: the Tarantula Cave or Fantasy, the 4D cinema, the Kalimba Theatre, and the virtual simulator, which was closed due to synchronisation issues. Some dining and photography areas are also not operational.
The proposal to create new attractions will carry the most weight in the competition," municipal sources indicate.
