The Community of Madrid is reconstructing the footbridge at kilometre 3.7 of the M-500, damaged on August 22 by the loading arm of a truck. The investment is €412,000 and the execution period is approximately three months.
The Community of Madrid has begun the reconstruction of the footbridge located at kilometre 3.7 of the M-500 road in the capital, after the loading arm of a truck transporting construction materials struck the central part of the structure on August 22. The Government Council was informed this week of the contracts for the work, as published by vivirediciones.es.
The project has an investment of €412,000 and an approximate execution period of three months, according to the press release from the Community of Madrid.
The impact of the heavy vehicle caused significant damage to the footbridge and forced the restriction of pedestrian access for safety reasons. The structure connects both sides of the road and was used daily by residents going to or returning from the bus stops.
The regional government initiated emergency work on September 8 to completely replace the affected section. Since then, preliminary tasks have been carried out to prepare the ground and dismantle the damaged part, awaiting the Government Council to formalise the main work contracts.
The new footbridge will restore pedestrian access between the bus stops located on both sides of the M-500 and the entrances to the Real Club de Campo Villa de Madrid and La Cantera, both in Casa de Campo. During the construction, these points will remain closed to prevent users from crossing the road unsafely, as detailed by the regional administration.
The Community of Madrid has scheduled the main work at night to reduce the impact on traffic. More than 55,000 vehicles per day travel on the M-500, a route that connects the M-30, the A-6, and the M-503 and provides access to Aravaca and several municipalities in the region.
With a three-month period from the formalisation of the contracts, the footbridge should be rebuilt and operational before the end of 2026. The night-time execution will allow the M-500 to maintain its normal traffic capacity during the day.
