Saasa Global has received authorization from the Ministry of Agriculture to operate its cargo terminal at Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport as a departure point for small live animals to third countries starting from October 1, 2026.
The cargo terminal operated by Saasa Global at Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport will be able to manage the export of small live animals to third countries from October 1, 2026. The company, part of Andino Inversiones Global, has received authorization from the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food to operate as a departure point, as reported by cadenadesuministro.es.
The authorization covers canids, felids, lagomorphs, mustelids, rodents, birds, and ornamental reptiles, within the scope set by the Ministry. Animals must arrive at the terminal in containers that will be used later on the aircraft, and only one export shipment can be managed at a time.
This authorization adds to the one obtained in June 2026 to operate as a Border Control Point (PCF). With both roles, the facilities can carry out health and phytosanitary checks on goods and animals subject to official controls without the need to transfer them to other premises.
For operators and shippers, the combination of terminal, PCF, and departure point reduces paperwork and provides more predictability for operations with health and animal welfare requirements. The terminal separates import and export flows and applies biosecurity and traceability procedures during the animals' stay.
Saasa's cargo terminal in Barajas began operations on April 13, 2026 under a 30-year concession model with Aena. It occupies a plot of 14,000 square meters and features a building of 6,160 square meters, 18 loading docks, and over 140 linear meters of direct access to the airside, allowing it to handle flows to and from terminals T1, T2, T3, and T4.
