The Peruvian company SAASA, part of the Andean Group, has begun construction of a second cargo terminal at Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport, with an expected duration of 12 months.

The Peruvian company Servicios Aeroportuarios Andinos (SAASA), belonging to the Andean Group, has initiated the works for its second cargo terminal at Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport. According to Gestión, the construction phase will last about 12 months.

The works have the approval of the execution project from Aena and the license from the Madrid City Council. The facility is being built on plot M-15 of the Air Cargo Centre, awarded to the company on a 30-year concession, covering an area of approximately 7,621 m² and a maximum buildable area of 6,565 m².

The new terminal will feature a warehouse of about 3,000 m², a capacity of 30,000 tonnes annually, eight loading docks for trucks, and a ramp for oversized goods. Unlike the first terminal, which handles general, perishable, refrigerated, and special handling cargo, this second one will be dedicated to second-line logistics services: preparation and conditioning of goods, palletising, storage, movements between warehouses, and customs-related operations.

The facility is aimed at freight forwarding companies and end clients who need complementary services before shipping.

SAASA's first cargo terminal at Barajas opened in April with an initial capacity of 40,000 tonnes annually and potential to reach 80,000. The general manager, Enrique Vargas Loret de Mola, assessed the launch:

It has been a significant challenge. We have already surpassed the initial hurdles we had planned.

In those first months, the company has begun working with Latin American airlines and businesses that require logistics services in Spain, citing Inditex as a client. Vargas expects to fill that warehouse by 2028, the year in which the company aims to continue growing and, if possible, develop another warehouse.
