The Community of Madrid allocates €9.3 million to the second phase of the School 4.0 programme, which will bring robotics, 3D printing, and programming to public schools and institutes. The measure will benefit 792,986 schoolchildren from 1,632 centres.
The Community of Madrid has approved an investment of €9.3 million for the second phase of the School 4.0 programme, as reported by the Council of Government this summer. The aim is to strengthen the digital skills of students in public-funded schools and institutes by incorporating robotics resources into classrooms.
This new allocation adds to the €15.2 million that the regional government already allocated to the first phase, with which centres incorporated educational robots, programming boards, microcomputers, and sensors. The information, advanced by Interempresas, details that in this second stage, 3D printing equipment, solutions for practical programming learning, technology kits, and specific resources for students with special educational needs will be added.
The programme will reach 792,986 schoolchildren in Special Education, Early Childhood, Primary, and Secondary enrolled in the 1,632 schools and institutes in the region. The materials are adapted to each stage: in Early Childhood and the first years of Primary, educational robotics is used to develop logical, visual, and spatial skills; in Primary, introductory kits, programmable boards, and 3D printing for STEM projects are introduced; and in Secondary, advanced digital manufacturing, design, prototyping, programming, and data analysis equipment will be used.
For students with special educational needs, high-resistance adapted materials will be available, with eye-tracking identification systems and augmentative communication for students with severe mobility impairment or multiple disabilities. Additionally, training will be provided for teachers, and multimedia teaching materials will be developed to facilitate the integration of these contents into the classroom.
This measure aims to foster skills among children and young people such as logical and computational thinking, problem-solving, creativity, programming, and responsible use of technology," stated the Community of Madrid.
The first phase already enabled centres to be equipped with basic technological infrastructure, and now it is being expanded with specialised tools. The total investment of the programme amounts to €24.5 million across both phases.
