The Civil Guard has arrested five individuals with numerous prior convictions for stealing nine heavy machines at construction sites in municipalities in eastern Madrid and Guadalajara. The material, valued between 40,000 and 90,000 euros each, was being dismantled in a warehouse in San Martín de la Vega to be sold outside Spain.
The Civil Guard has arrested five individuals as the alleged perpetrators of the theft of nine heavy machines at public works in various localities in eastern Madrid and the province of Guadalajara. The arrested individuals have numerous prior convictions for property crimes and have already been placed at the disposal of the judicial authority, according to the armed institute, as reported by madridactual.es.
The investigations began in November of last year, after agents detected an increase in this type of theft in the area. Estimates made during the investigations place the value of each of the seized machines between 40,000 and 90,000 euros.
Among the municipalities affected by the thefts are Meco, Villalbilla, Santorcaz, Villarejo de Salvanés, Arganda del Rey, Torres de Alameda, and Los Santos de la Humosa. According to the investigations, the detainees travelled to the construction sites in rental vehicles.
Once the material was stolen, the machines were parked in discreet locations for a prudent amount of time. They were then transported to a warehouse in San Martín de la Vega, where they were dismantled and prepared for international market sale, according to the hypothesis being considered by the Civil Guard.
The five arrested individuals have been placed at the judicial disposal. The operation remains open and further arrests are not ruled out in the coming days.
