The Junta of Extremadura received the Global Public International Innovation Award in Madrid, at the first edition of the Global Tech Leaders Awards 2026. The ceremony was held at the Real Casa de Correos and was presided over by Isabel Díaz Ayuso.
The president of the Junta of Extremadura, María Guardiola, collected the Global Public International Innovation Award in Madrid on Tuesday, awarded to the Junta in the first edition of the Global Tech Leaders Awards 2026. According to La Portada de Extremadura, the award is organised by the Community of Madrid to recognise companies, leaders, and initiatives in the technological field.
After receiving the award, Guardiola thanked the Community of Madrid and the jury for the recognition, extending it to all the people of Extremadura.
This award does not belong to a Government: it belongs to all the people of Extremadura
The president of Extremadura focused on the digitalisation of administrative procedures and on facilitating citizens' electronic access to public services. She explained that 91 percent of procedures are available online and that the regional administration has more than 750 digitalised procedures.
Guardiola added that 550 procedures have been simplified. Processing times have been reduced by an average of 57 percent and the documentation required from citizens has decreased by 70 percent.
The president linked this digital transformation to the improvement of access to public services across the territory, especially in rural municipalities. She also advocated for cooperation between autonomous communities and cited the relationship between Madrid and Extremadura as an example of experience exchange between administrations.
Talent and good ideas do not understand borders
The ceremony took place at the Real Casa de Correos and was presided over by the president of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, as part of Madrid Tech Week. According to the organisers, the awards recognise technological talent that accelerates digital transformation. The event brings together more than 1,200 exhibiting companies and over 600 professionals.
In addition to the Junta of Extremadura, the awards recognised Francisco Salcedo, president of Microsoft Spain, as the best executive; Mistral for its commitment to AI in Europe; Revolut as the best company; and ProFuturo for its social and environmental impact.
