The Mayor of Madrid has no knowledge of any action by the Government to ensure that the 2030 World Cup final is held in Spain. The venue is still undecided between Spain and Morocco.
According to El Debate, the Mayor of Madrid, José Luis Martínez-Almeida, has expressed his doubts about whether the central Government has taken any initiative regarding the venue for the 2030 World Cup final. The choice is still pending between Spain, with Santiago Bernabéu or Spotify Camp Nou as options, and Morocco, with Casablanca.
When asked about updates from the City Council on this matter, the Madrid mayor stated:
I have no knowledge that the Government of Spain has taken any action aimed at ensuring that this final can be played in our country.
Almeida clarified that this does not mean that nothing has been done, although he said he does not trust that the Executive has acted, considering the country with which Spain is competing. He made this statement at the press conference following the City Government Board meeting.
We have no news from the national Government regarding strengthening Madrid's candidacy, or in Barcelona's case, to host the final in 2030.
In the same appearance, the mayor responded to the comments made by the president of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, about a possible withdrawal of Spain from the tournament's organization if the decisive match is played in Morocco. Almeida stated that, in that case,
there must be serious consequences.
For the people of Madrid, the matter affects the potential hosting of the final at the Bernabéu, one of the two proposed stadiums in Spain, so the final decision by the organizing body will determine whether the capital remains in the running to host the match.
