The leader of VOX will once again be absent from the institutional events of National Day in Madrid. He will travel to Ceuta accompanied by the Frenchman Jordan Bardella.
The president of VOX, Santiago Abascal, will not attend this year's military parade on October 12 in Madrid. The party has confirmed to Europa Press that the leader will spend the day in Ceuta, where he will be joined by Jordan Bardella, president of the Patriots of Europe group in the European Parliament and leader of the French National Rally.
This will be the second consecutive time that Abascal has missed the authorities' stand at the parade and the subsequent reception at the Royal Palace, which is attended by the Kings and other high-ranking state officials. In 2025, VOX justified its absence with criticisms of Pedro Sánchez's government.
Whitewashing a government mired in scandalous corruption and responsible for serious betrayals of Spain's interests
The choice of Ceuta as the venue for October 12, 2026 comes after the migratory crisis that the autonomous city experienced this summer. Abascal already visited the city on August 2, days after the mass entries recorded at the border with Morocco, and since then his party has maintained political pressure on the border situation, according to labandera.es.
Bardella's presence adds a European dimension to the visit. Both leaders share a group in the Eurochamber, and Abascal plans to introduce the French leader during an informational breakfast to be held on Tuesday in Madrid.
Before traveling to Ceuta, Abascal will participate this Sunday in a political event in Estepona (Málaga), the first rally of VOX's pre-campaign for the general elections on November 29.
