A total of 615 sixth graders from Tres Cantos are participating this Wednesday in the V Children's Space Congress, an event taking place in the Theatre of the Adolfo Suárez Cultural Centre across two sessions. The initiative is promoted by the association Women in Aerospace Europe (WIA-E) Madrid alongside the Education Department of the City Council, as reported by madridactual.es.
The first session starts at 9:30 AM with 325 students from the public schools Tierno Galván, Ciudad de Columbia, Carmen Iglesias, Gabriel García Márquez, and Antonio Osuna, as well as the private Nuestra Señora de la Merced and Life International School. The second session, beginning at 11:30 AM, gathers 290 students from the public schools Aldebarán, Miguel de Cervantes, Ciudad de Nejapa, and Carmen Hernández Guarch, along with the private Humanitas Bilingual School. The mayor, Jesús Moreno, attends the event.
The talks are conducted by female engineers and aerospace professionals, who bring science and technology closer to the students in an educational manner. Among WIA-E's goals is to encourage careers in engineering and aerospace, especially among girls.
Awakening their interest in this sector and fostering new vocations among the younger generation
As a preparatory activity, the students have worked in class on content related to space under this edition's theme, "The Rocket Revolution". The posters and murals they have created will be displayed in the Art Corner of the Adolfo Suárez Cultural Centre over the coming weeks.
The congress is part of the World Space Week, a commemoration promoted by the UN that this year extends until Saturday and aims to disseminate the contributions of space science and technology and their impact on society.
