The City Council of Madrid offers 2,557 positions between open recruitment and internal promotion. The registration deadlines are not unified: some processes close on October 22 and 29.
The City Council of Madrid has announced 2,557 vacancies for public employment for 2026, according to information published by merca2.es. The offer is divided into two blocks: the general one, approved on July 23, with 1,583 positions, and the Security and Emergencies block, authorised on July 16, with 974. Of the total, 1,836 are open recruitment and 721 are for internal promotion, reserved for those already working in the municipal administration.
The City Council published the complete breakdown on September 24. The main warning for applicants is that the registration deadlines are not unified. On October 8, applications for three processes totalling 201 vacancies closed, while others remain open until October 22 and 29.
Among the new entry categories, there are 132 vacancies for administrative assistants, 43 for social workers, and numerous technical and healthcare positions. The sports facilities account for over 357 vacancies, a block that accepts varied profiles.
In Security and Emergencies, there are 439 vacancies for municipal police, 185 for specialist firefighters, and 70 for healthcare transport auxiliary technicians. This second batch adds to the security and emergencies offer of 1,106 vacancies announced in 2025.
Not all announcements correspond to the 2026 exercise. The 155 vacancies for mobility agents come from the offers of 2024 and 2025. Of the 39 veterinary vacancies, 23 are from the current year. The 30 vacancies for higher administration technicians in open recruitment and the 30 for internal promotion do execute the current offer. A vacancy published now may carry bases that have already closed.
Madrid mixes in the same offer vacancies for open recruitment with internal promotion and categories ranging from Secondary Education Graduate to university degree.
The requirements vary according to the position. The Basic Statute of Public Employees sets the general framework, and each announcement adds its own conditions. Groups A1 and A2 require a university degree with the corresponding specialty; C1 asks for a high school diploma or technician title; and C2 is satisfied with a Secondary Education Graduate. It is required to be at least 16 years old, not to have reached retirement age, to have functional capacity, and not to be disqualified for public employment.
The general offer reserves 111 vacancies for people with disabilities, distributed between open recruitment and internal promotion. Of these, 22 are for people with intellectual disabilities in the category of general services worker.
The selection system is a competitive exam or a competition-exam, depending on the announcement. The specific structure, with the number of topics, practical exercises, and physical tests for police and firefighters, appears in each announcement published in the Official Bulletin of the Community of Madrid and at the municipal headquarters. The ordinary application period is 20 working days from the day after publication in the BOE or in the regional bulletin. After that, the lists of admitted and excluded candidates are published, with a correction period if there are errors in the documentation.
Registration is done electronically through the municipal admission procedure, with a digital certificate, electronic ID, or Cl@ve. The processes that remain open can be consulted at the electronic headquarters of the City Council of Madrid.
