The Museo Nacional Thyssen-Bornemisza hosts an exhibition curated by Jaime Brihuega that explores Salvador Dalí's biography through his relationship with Sigmund Freud.

According to La Voz de Puertollano, the Museo Nacional Thyssen-Bornemisza presents the exhibition The Freudian Universe of Dalí, curated by Jaime Brihuega. The show reviews the entire career of the painter from Figueres, focusing on the influence of Sigmund Freud, from his early family years to his later works.

The exhibition brings together around 130 works, including paintings, drawings, sculptures, and videos, from museums and institutions across Europe and North America. It is organised into six chronological sections and is supported by the Community of Madrid and the Madrid City Council, with sponsorship from Natixis Corporate Investment Banking.

Dalí read The Interpretation of Dreams by Freud in the early 1920s at the Residencia de Estudiantes in Madrid, which led to a system of signs and symbols that he repeated in his work. The two met at a gathering and, in 1938, had an interview in London.

The first section addresses the painter's family environment in Figueres and Cadaqués, including the death of his mother when he was 17 and the beaches and rocks of Cape Creus as a recurring landscape. The following rooms explore his time in Madrid and Barcelona and his arrival at surrealism in Paris, alongside works by Ramón y Cajal, Federico García Lorca, and Yves Tanguy.

In the first stage of my life, my hero was Sigmund Freud. My painting expressed the anguish and neurotic visions I had at that time.
