The Abulense team deserved more, but their lack of accuracy condemned them at Cerro del Espino.
The Real Ávila Football Club began the season with a 2-1 defeat against Atlético de Madrid C at the Cerro del Espino Stadium in Majadahonda, in a match played on Saturday afternoon corresponding to the first round of Group 5 of the Segunda Federación.
The team managed by Jorge Marchena had numerous chances, but their lack of accuracy in the opponent's area prevented them from achieving a positive result. The starting eleven consisted of Álvaro Cortés, Luengo, Jesús del Amo, Óscar de Frutos, Fer Díaz, Diego González, Bless, Sarmiento, Millán, Molina, and Darius.
In the first half, Real Ávila dominated the game and created opportunities, but the rojiblanco reserve team took the lead ten minutes in through Adoo. Before the break, Darius and Millán, the latter on two occasions, could have equalised but failed.
After the restart, Molina had two clear chances, but it was Jesús del Amo who committed a penalty that Cuéllar converted in the 55th minute to make it 2-0. Three minutes later, Molina reduced the deficit. In the next play, Millán missed a one-on-one that would have meant the equaliser.
With the substitutions of Asier, Castri, and Adilson, the Abulense team sought to level the score. Millán shot just wide, Adilson missed a one-on-one, Castri had his shot saved by the local goalkeeper and also shot wide, and Darius headed into the goalkeeper's hands. As reported by Tribuna Ávila, the match was played in front of around 300 spectators, of which about a hundred were Real Ávila fans.
The next commitment for the Abulense team will be on Sunday, September 13 at 18:00 against Club Deportivo Artístico Navalcarnero, also away, in the second round of the league.
