José Mourinho assures that Vinicius Junior would have forced his departure from Real Madrid if he were in his position. The Brazilian is serving a four-match ban in LaLiga.
According to GOAL.com, José Mourinho has stated that Vinicius Junior should have left Real Madrid during the last summer transfer window to play in a league where he would receive more respect. The coach's words come amid speculation regarding Arsenal's interest in the Brazilian winger.
The player is serving a four-match ban in LaLiga after receiving a straight red card against Villarreal. Before the league match against Sevilla, Mourinho expressed surprise at the composure the player has shown in the face of criticism from some fans at the Santiago Bernabéu.
If I were [Vinicius], if I were in his place, I probably wouldn’t be here,” Mourinho told reporters.
Last summer I would have forced my exit to a league, a country, clubs, and stadiums where I was respected.
The coach clarified that the player's affection for the club is what kept him in Madrid. Vinicius signed a contract extension that ties him to Real Madrid until 2032.
In the Champions League, the winger was substituted in the 59th minute during the match against Roma, when the team was losing 3-1. Afterwards, Madrid came back to win 4-3. Vinicius acknowledged his displeasure with the decision, although he did not want to provide further details about the substitution.
It’s normal for me to be upset when I’m substituted, because I always want to play every minute, perform at my best, and help the team.
Mourinho has confirmed that Vinicius will return to the starting eleven in the next Champions League match against RB Leipzig.
