The Getafe City Council has installed 200 surveillance cameras at strategic points. The mayor, Sara Hernández, claims that the system helps prevent and solve crimes.

According to noticias.madrid, the Getafe City Council already has a network of 200 surveillance cameras distributed across strategic locations in the town. The system serves both to prevent crimes and to investigate them.

The mayor, Sara Hernández, believes that these cameras are one of the most important investments for the community:

They function as an unbeatable preventive tool because the criminal knows that it is much more difficult to act here.

Hernández adds that the municipality's capacity to resolve crimes quickly and collaborate with other Security Forces is high.

In January, the recordings allowed for the identification and arrest of the alleged perpetrator of a homicide. The images also helped to arrest a thief who was snatching items from pedestrians.

The cameras are equipped with automated masking systems that cover windows, balconies, and other sensitive areas, ensuring that the privacy of residents is protected. The City Council assures that the network complies with data protection and privacy standards.

The system also provides data for traffic management. With this information, the City Council plans diversions and road closures during works to minimize inconvenience to drivers.

Getafe plans to incorporate a unit of autonomous drones that will operate 24 hours. According to the City Council, these devices will detect incidents, deter violations, and enhance surveillance in all neighbourhoods.
