Getafe has reached an agreement with Dani Carvajal to sign him as a free agent. The full-back has already passed his medical examination, and the operation is pending LaLiga's approval.
The Getafe CF has reached an agreement with Dani Carvajal for his signing as a free agent, after the full-back finished his contract with Real Madrid last summer and did not find a new team. The blue club has acknowledged discussions to close the signing, as reported by jornadaperfecta.com.
The operation developed throughout Tuesday: in the morning, Getafe's interest was leaked, and hours later both parties had already agreed on the contract conditions. The 34-year-old player has accepted a significant salary reduction compared to the salary he received at the Madrid club.
The agreement includes that Carvajal has already passed the medical examination, but the signing is not yet official. Getafe has one of the tightest salary caps in LaLiga, so the signing is subject to the approval of the body headed by Javier Tebas.
The manager asked me for a winger, and since we couldn’t find one, we’re looking at a full-back, let’s see if that works. We’re on it; he has already passed the medical examination, and I just need to reach an agreement with LaLiga,” declared Ángel Torres, president of Getafe, on DAZN.
Torres himself has confirmed that discussions with LaLiga are still ongoing and that the signing depends on their approval. Getafe is looking to strengthen the right-back position, where they already have Kiko Femenía and Andrés García, so Carvajal's arrival would create direct competition.
Carvajal did not play in the World Cup and has not played an official match since May, so his physical readiness will be one of the factors to consider. The player, who was captain of Real Madrid, would return to LaLiga after more than a decade with the white team.
The outcome of the operation will be known in the coming hours when LaLiga responds to the financial proposal submitted by Getafe. If the body gives the green light, Carvajal will become the new blue player and will be available for the coaching staff.
