Rayo Vallecano forward Sergio Camello continues to drive a 2015 Volkswagen Beetle Cabrio that has already accumulated nearly 300,000 kilometres. The Madrid-born footballer explained that he does not plan to part with it for sentimental reasons.

The forward of Rayo Vallecano Sergio Camello, 25 years old, still uses a 2015 Volkswagen Beetle Cabrio daily, which has already accumulated nearly 300,000 kilometres, according to the player himself in an interview with ABC in 2024, which La Vanguardia reported on. The car, the convertible version of the model that revived the Beetle design, also appears on his social media.

The footballer, born in Madrid on February 10, 2001, explained that the condition of the vehicle does not lead him to get rid of it. "It's a sentimental thing, even though it's quite worn out. It has almost 300,000 kilometres. I plan to look for another one, but without abandoning this one. The Beetle is part of my life," he stated in that interview.

I don't like fame, I like to stay under the radar and be relaxed with my mates in the neighbourhood

Camello also mentioned that the car helps him disconnect from competition. A fan of indie and rock, he claims that inside the Beetle he listens to music without thinking about anything else. "In my car, music is sacred. I get in, turn it up loud, and forget about everything," he added.

His sporting career has gone in the opposite direction to his car. He started at Las Encinas, in Boadilla del Monte, and at the age of eight joined the youth academy of Atlético de Madrid, where he made his debut with the first team. In the 2021-2022 season, he scored 15 goals with Mirandés in the Second Division, a performance that opened the doors to Vallecas.

His most notable moment came at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games: he scored two goals in extra time of the final against France and was crucial in helping Spain win the gold medal. Despite this trajectory, he maintains the same habit off the pitch, continuing to drive the Beetle he bought years ago.
