A Griffon Vulture was rescued this Saturday in Móstoles after landing on a traffic sign on the A-5, at kilometre 21. The bird's presence on the motorway necessitated the activation of a special operation, as reported by Noticias para Municipios.
The Forest Agents of the Community of Madrid were responsible for the intervention with the support of the Civil Guard, which temporarily halted traffic to ensure safety during the operations.
The operation became complicated when the vulture left the sign and moved to the roof of a road conservation vehicle. The teams eventually managed to collect the animal and remove it from the vicinity of the motorway.
The specimen was taken to the facilities of GREFA (Group for the Rehabilitation of Native Fauna and its Habitat), where it will be cared for and assessed. So far, no details have been provided regarding its health status or the circumstances that led it to the A-5.
One should not attempt to capture or handle it on their own
The Forest Agents remind that, in the case of a lost or sick wild animal, one should contact 112, which will provide the necessary instructions and activate the specialized team when appropriate.
This incident comes just days after another rescue of a Griffon Vulture in the region. In San Sebastián de los Reyes, a young specimen was found disoriented on Juan Gris street on September 19 and was attended to by the Local Police's Environmental Unit in collaboration with GREFA.
