The Provincial Court of Madrid has been judging since Wednesday eight accused of assaulting luxury homes in the south of the region. The prosecution is seeking over 49 years in prison for one of them.

The Provincial Court of Madrid has been judging since Wednesday eight accused of being part of a gang allegedly dedicated to violent robberies in luxury homes. According to Noticias para Municipios, some of the assaults were committed while posing as police officers.

The prosecution attributes to the defendants crimes of robbery with force, robbery with violence and intimidation with weapons, illegal detention, impersonation of authority, and injuries, among others. According to the indictment, the group members used badges, vests with police insignia, and firearms to subdue their victims.

The Public Prosecutor's Office is requesting over 49 years in prison for one of the accused. The case investigates several assaults committed between December 2022 and February 2023.

The accusation places several of the robberies in municipalities in the south and southeast of Madrid. On December 25, 2022, an assault occurred in a home in Rivas Vaciamadrid, where the accused allegedly took 3,500 euros in cash, jewellery, watches, and a mink coat. On January 21, 2023, in a house in Arroyomolinos, 42,000 euros and various jewels were reportedly stolen. On February 2, in Villaviciosa de Odón, the prosecution attributes the theft of 3,200 euros and other items to them.

According to the accusation, several defendants previously surveilled the homes and used recording and geolocation devices to track the movements of their occupants.

The most serious incident detailed in the prosecution's document occurred on February 22, 2023. Four accused allegedly placed a geolocation device on a victim's vehicle and stopped him on the R-5, heading towards Arroyomolinos, using a police light device. According to the prosecution, the victim was taken to a property in Navalcarnero, where for about two hours he was beaten and subjected to electric shocks to reveal where he kept his money.

The accusation adds that several members of the group later went to the victim's home, where his partner and two children, aged 14 and four, were present. According to the document, they took 2,700 euros in cash and several jewels, and the family was taken to the property. Eventually, the couple and the minors were abandoned in Moraleja de Enmedio.

In the searches of properties related to the investigated individuals, agents found battery clamps, police handcuffs or shackles, masks, badge holders, and backpacks with police insignia, as well as weapons, magazines, ammunition, and a silencer. The trial will determine the criminal responsibility of each of the eight accused.
