Miguel Ángel Barbero, head of the EDOA in Segovia, has been arrested by Internal Affairs in a drug trafficking operation coordinated from Madrid. He is in provisional detention without bail along with three other individuals.
The head of the Organised Crime and Drug Trafficking Team (EDOA) of the Civil Guard in Segovia, Miguel Ángel Barbero, has been arrested again for his alleged involvement in a drug trafficking network. The operation, led by the Internal Affairs unit from Madrid, has resulted in four arrests, according to information obtained by elespanol.com.
The events date back to Sunday, September 27, when the arrests were made during the exploitation phase of the investigation. The investigation began in April 2026 and has been taken over by Section No. 5 of the Court of First Instance in Segovia.
Barbero is in provisional detention, communicated and without bail. He is being investigated for alleged drug trafficking offences that cause serious harm to health, aggravated by his status as a public official, bribery, discovery and revelation of secrets, and membership in a criminal gang.
The other three arrested individuals would be unrelated to the State Security Forces and Corps,” according to sources consulted by this newspaper.
The other three detainees are attributed with alleged offences of drug trafficking, bribery, money laundering, and membership in a criminal group.
This is not the first time Barbero has faced a similar investigation. In 2017, he was arrested for incidents related to drug trafficking and spent around two months in provisional detention in penitentiary centres in Valencia. However, in July 2018, the proceedings were dismissed and he was acquitted, returning to his position at the head of the EDOA in Segovia.
After that episode, Barbero even claimed compensation from the Ministry of the Interior for the time he spent deprived of liberty. In 2016, he had been decorated during the Pilar festivities.
The operation remains open and new arrests are not ruled out in the coming days. The case remains under secrecy in the Court of First Instance in Segovia.
