The 26-year-old officer passed away in Madrid after spending a month in intensive care due to leukemia diagnosed just weeks earlier. She was stationed in Mora (Toledo) and had strong ties to Nerja (Málaga).
Marta Gelado García, a 26-year-old civil guard, has died in Madrid after being diagnosed with leukemia just a month prior. The officer was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of a hospital in the capital for around a month, according to information published by elperiodicomediterraneo.com. The news has caused shock among her colleagues at the Armed Institute and in her personal circle.
Gelado began to feel unwell weeks ago and visited the hospital several times. Medical tests detected the illness, and since then, she remained in the ICU. Her death occurred in Madrid, just weeks after learning of the diagnosis.
Gelado's professional career in the Civil Guard had just begun. The Official State Gazette published her promotion to the position of civil guard in July 2025, within the Scale of Corporals and Guards. She was currently stationed in Mora, in the province of Toledo, although she had previously completed part of her training at the Main Post of the Civil Guard in Nerja (Málaga).
Gelado's connection to Nerja went beyond the professional. Her family had strong ties to the Málaga town, and the young woman returned there whenever she could. Her father also belongs to the Civil Guard, and her younger sister, Laura, is following in her footsteps and is currently doing her training at the Nerja post.
Additionally, she was actively involved in the religious life of Nerja. For years, she was linked to the Parish Group of Our Father Jesus Captive and Mary Most Holy of the Forsaken, collaborating in processions, setups, and other events. She had given her medal of the Virgin of the Pillar, patroness of the Civil Guard, to the images.
Expressions of sorrow have followed since her passing was announced. The Civil Guard Command of Albacete publicly joined in mourning with her family and emphasized that her memory and vocation will remain among those who shared the profession with her. The specialized page for Civil Guard content 062 Es por ti, which Gelado followed, also dedicated a message to her on social media.

The coffin arrived this Thursday at the funeral home located in the Nerja cemetery, where family, friends, and members of the Civil Guard began to say their goodbyes to the young officer. This Friday, Marta Gelado is expected to be laid to rest in Nerja, the town with which she maintained a close personal and family relationship.
