Jimena González from Más Madrid asked Ayuso if she preferred the Real Casa de Correos to be set on fire. The Assembly president asked her to retract her words, which she refused to do.
According to ABC, Más Madrid deputy Jimena González asked the regional president, Ayuso, this Thursday if she preferred "the French way", meaning that people would enter the Real Casa de Correos, the seat of the Community Presidency in Puerta del Sol, and set it on fire. The intervention took place during a debate in the Asamblea de Madrid, where the Popular Group had spoken of "violence" due to the disturbances in the capital in recent days.
The deputy defended the people gathered in Sol to demand decent housing, describing them as peaceful and civic. Her words were:
Maybe you prefer the French way and for people to enter the Real Casa de Correos and set it on fire.
The Minister of Economy, Rocío Albert, who was debating with her, reproached the expression and asked her to retract it, but González refused.
The president of the Assembly, Enrique Ossorio, also asked her to retract words he deemed "extremely serious", as he believed they could incite violence by alluding to the disturbances in France and to "burning Puerta del Sol". Sources close to Ossorio have indicated that measures against the deputy will be considered "as reflected in the Diario de Sesiones".
The spokesperson for the Popular Group, Carlos Díaz-Pache, described the words as "intolerable" and called for a unanimous condemnation:
This is absolutely intolerable and demands a unanimous condemnation.
Más Madrid responded by recalling that Ayuso's number two, Alfonso Serrano, had called their spokesperson, Manuela Bergerot, a "vegetable vendor", something Serrano confirmed on his social media. Bergerot replied that he was "obsessed", and Serrano retorted in the same tone.
The decision on possible measures will depend on how the episode is recorded in the Assembly's Diario de Sesiones.
