The Mayor of Madrid receives the honour medal from the Association of Victims of Terrorism in a ceremony held in the Senate. The UCO of the Civil Guard obtains the XIV Truth, Memory, Dignity and Justice Award.

According to El Debate, the Mayor of Madrid, José Luis Martínez-Almeida, received this Thursday the honour medal from the Association of Victims of Terrorism (AVT), known as the Cruz de la Dignidad. The entity recognises his commitment to the victims and to the defence of truth, memory, dignity, and justice.

The ceremony, organised by the association itself, took place in the Old Session Hall of the Senate under the motto “Dignity and memory against terrorism: a state commitment”. It also served to pay tribute to the victims and to distinguish other individuals and institutions for their contributions.

The same event awarded the XIV Truth, Memory, Dignity and Justice Award to the Central Operational Unit (UCO) of the Civil Guard. The association highlighted its work in the fight against terrorism:

A recognition of a unit that has become a benchmark for its professionalism, rigour, and ability to tackle some of the most complex investigations in our country.

The Cruz de la Dignidad was also awarded to the president of the Extremadura Regional Government, María Guardiola, the mayor of Ronda, María Paz Fernández, and the dean of the Official College of Psychology of Las Palmas, Francisco Javier Sánchez, among other personalities.
