PP and Vox reject the PSOE's total amendment and the General Advocacy Law project continues its course in the Assembly. The law stipulates that the Attorney General must be a regional lawyer with a decade of experience.

The Assembly of Madrid has rejected the total amendment presented by PSOE to the General Advocacy Law Project of the Community of Madrid, with votes from PP and Vox. The law thus continues its parliamentary processing, as La Razón has learned.

The text introduces as a requirement that the Attorney General belongs to the Body of Lawyers of the Community of Madrid and has at least ten years of professional experience. The reform aims to reorganise the regional legal services and separate legal advice from defence in litigation.

The Minister of Presidency, Justice and Local Administration, Miguel Ángel García Martín, defended the initiative before the plenary and detailed the current workload: the regional Advocacy responds to more than 8,000 inquiries a year, both from municipalities and the regional Administration itself, and participates in 14,500 lawsuits. In total, more than 22,500 annual matters.

García Martín added that these services cover more than a hundred municipalities and eleven associations, aiming to ensure they can resolve their legal issues securely.

An Advocacy that is currently making more than 8,000 responses to inquiries, which we receive from both municipalities and the administration of the Community of Madrid, and 14,500 lawsuits in which it intervenes. We are talking about more than 22,500 matters handled just in a year

The minister also distanced himself from the State Advocacy and stated that they will not turn the regional one into an instrument at the service of “the interests of their family or their party”.

From Vox, its deputy spokesperson, Íñigo Henríquez de Luna, supported the need to update the law but criticised the Community for promoting a norm against hyper-regulation while accumulating “legislative hypertrophy”. In his speech, he emphasised that the legal services of any administration are essential because they ensure respect for the legal system and guarantee that competences are exercised within the legal framework.

With the total amendment rejected, the project continues its course in the Assembly, where the debate will continue in committee before its final approval.
