García Gómez takes office on 28 October at the Real Casa de Correos, following an appointment that reorganises the regional Government. Until now, he was Deputy Minister of Housing, Transport and Infrastructure.

The Community of Madrid has a new Minister of Housing, Transport and Infrastructure. According to xm2news.com, José María García Gómez replaces Jorge Rodrigo, who will now lead the Environment portfolio. The appointment was approved by Decree 50/2026, of 26 October, as part of the reorganisation of the regional Government led by Isabel Díaz Ayuso.

García Gómez took office on 28 October at the Real Casa de Correos, the headquarters of the regional Executive. Until now, he held the position of Deputy Minister of Housing, Transport and Infrastructure since July 2023.

This change comes after Carlos Novillo, Minister of Environment, Agriculture and Interior, and José Antonio Sánchez, Deputy Minister of the Presidency, are candidates for the Popular Party in the general elections on 29 November. With this move, García Gómez assumes responsibilities in housing, rehabilitation, transport and infrastructure.

His career in the regional Administration linked to the residential sector spans over a decade. Between 2015 and 2021, he was the General Director of Housing and Rehabilitation for the Community of Madrid, and later, Deputy Minister of Housing and Land Planning until July 2023.

He holds a degree in Law from Universidad Complutense de Madrid and in Political Science and Sociology from UNED, and has a master's degree in Business Management from Universidad Europea de Madrid. Born in Vigo, he has worked in local Administration, public companies, urban consortia, and housing cooperatives.

Among the residential programmes he will inherit is the Plan Vive, which includes 16,500 affordable rental homes planned. According to data from the regional Government, 6,530 of these had been delivered by September 2026.
