The first phase of the municipal campaign has visited 547 hospitality establishments in Fuenlabrada. A total of 432 venues are now correctly separating their glass containers.

According to Europa Press, 79% of the hospitality establishments visited in Fuenlabrada are already correctly separating their glass containers. This was communicated by the Fuenlabrada City Council after completing the first stage of the campaign in the city.

The initiative, promoted by the Department of Sustainability, Environment and Public Space, encompasses a total of 840 hospitality establishments. A team of environmental educators conducted surveys and interviews with 547 venues to understand their needs and adapt the available resources. During the personalised visits, the obligation to separate glass was reiterated, in accordance with the Municipal Ordinance, and the social, economic, and environmental benefits of recycling were explained.

As part of the strategic plan EcoVares, Ecovidrio has provided free rolling bins to the sector to facilitate the transport of glass waste. With this stage, 432 venues are now committed to separating this waste.

The City Council will launch a second phase aimed at achieving 100% recycling in the sector. The hospitality industry generates around 50% of single-use glass containers.

According to data from 2025, residents deposited 1,911 tonnes of glass containers in the green bins, about 10 kilos per inhabitant. The city has 544 green bins, one for every 349 inhabitants. Recycled glass is used to manufacture new containers without losing its original properties.
