The Fuenlabrada council approved a motion rejecting real estate speculation and calling for a State Pact for housing. The proposal was passed with the votes of PSOE and Más Madrid.
As reported by Noticias para Municipios, the Fuenlabrada City Council has rejected real estate speculation and the practices of investment funds and vulture funds, which jeopardise the residential stability of families. This position stems from a motion presented by PSOE and Más Madrid and approved in the municipal plenary session this Thursday.
The text reaffirms the institutional commitment to the right to decent housing and the protection of people in residential vulnerability. Additionally, the City Council commits to continue responding to housing emergencies, to study measures to prevent situations of helplessness, and to recognise the work of platforms and community groups that advocate for access to housing.
The motion demands public policies that expand the stock of public and affordable housing, guarantee access to a home, and prevent evictions. It also urges the European Union, the Government of Spain, the Community of Madrid, and local councils to promote a State Pact that strengthens housing policies and offers alternatives to vulnerable families. The voting was in favour for PSOE and Más Madrid, and against for PP and Vox.
In the same plenary session, PSOE and Más Madrid presented a joint initiative supporting the educational strike that began on October 14 and defending the public school system in Fuenlabrada. The proposal asks the Community of Madrid to negotiate with the unions and reduce teachers' working hours and class sizes. It also demands more resources for diversity support, better salaries, more public vocational training, climate control in schools, and a comprehensive plan against school segregation.
The City Council, for its part, will maintain the upkeep of its municipal educational centres and will continue to demand regional investments to improve their facilities.
The plenary also approved an institutional declaration on the occasion of November 25, International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. In it, the City Council condemns all forms of violence against women and urges the Community of Madrid to guarantee and strengthen funding allocated to municipalities for equality policies and programmes to prevent gender-based violence. This declaration was also passed with the votes of PSOE and Más Madrid, and the rejection of PP and Vox.
