The Punto de Atención Continuada at the Ondarreta health centre will close for renovations on October 3, and the service will move to the Jaime Vera Medical Specialties Centre in Coslada. The City Council of San Fernando de Henares has announced a letter of rejection to the Community of Madrid.
The Punto de Atención Continuada (PAC) at the Centro de Salud de plaza Ondarreta, in San Fernando de Henares, will cease operations on October 3. The service will be relocated to the Centro de Especialidades Médicas Jaime Vera, in Coslada, as reported by the local City Council after receiving communication from the Community of Madrid. The information, first reported by epe.es, details that the closure is due to renovations at the primary care centre.
The municipal government team, led by Mayor Javier Corpa (PSOE), has expressed its rejection of the measure and will send a letter to the regional government to show its "absolute disagreement". The spokesperson for the local government, Leticia Martín, has described the decision as a "new absurdity" from the Community of Madrid in its "desire to dismantle public healthcare".
We do not understand why our city always has to be harmed by these types of decisions, when we have another health centre where this service could be provided, thus preventing our residents from being forced to travel to that locality," the spokesperson added.
The City Council has also asked the Community of Madrid to clarify how long the renovations at the health centre will last. "Public healthcare is the fundamental pillar of our welfare state and the greatest guarantee of social equity that we have," assured the councillor responsible for the area, Mariano Sánchez.
Mayor Javier Corpa has emphasised that the City Council will continue to defend public healthcare "against cuts and privatisation policies", and has reminded that it is a "fundamental right enshrined in the Constitution".
With the closure of the PAC at plaza Ondarreta, residents of San Fernando de Henares who need ongoing medical attention outside normal hours will have to travel to Coslada from October 3. The City Council has demanded an alternative that maintains the service in the municipality, where there is another health centre that, according to the City Council, could accommodate the service.
