The City Council of Madrid proposes reserving parking spaces at the Bernabéu for residents at an affordable price. The measure is currently halted by a court ruling that suspends the parking.
According to Noticias para Municipios, the City Council of Madrid has offered residents around the Santiago Bernabéu stadium to reserve part of the parking spaces at the venue for residents, at an affordable price. This was confirmed by the delegate for Urbanism, Environment and Mobility, Borja Carabante.
As Carabante explained, the City Council has proposed that residents give up the parking at Paseo de la Habana, which concerned them the most due to its tunnel and access ramp. The delegate reminded that there is a waiting list among residents to obtain a parking space in the area.
What we want is to do it in accordance with the residents, and for that we have offered that part of those spaces that were reserved only for rotation could also be reserved for the residents, at an affordable price.
The proposal also aims to reduce traffic disturbances on match days and during events at the Bernabéu, by freeing up spaces that were previously designated only for vehicle rotation.
The plan faces an obstacle: a court ruling currently halts that parking. Carabante explained that the City Council must resolve the formal issues indicated by the ruling regarding urban compliance, and that it has to process a Special Plan to enable it again.
The delegate described the proposal as “an initiative well received by the residents.” For now, there is no date for the reopening of the parking to residents.
