Madrid City Council authorises the purchase of 16 ladder vehicles for €22.9 million. The units will arrive between 2027 and 2028 and will replace those currently rented.

According to espormadrid.es, the Madrid City Council Governing Board has approved the authorisation of the supply contract for 16 ladder vehicles for the Firefighters Corps. The multi-year expenditure amounts to €22.9 million (including VAT) and the processing of the file is expedited. The contract is divided into two lots.

The purchase includes 12 compact ladders of 32 metres and four ladders of 42 metres. They will be received progressively between 2027 and 2028. Each vehicle will arrive fully equipped, and the contract includes a spare basket for each type of ladder.

The new units will replace the ten ladders that the corps currently has in service through leasing, a contract that is about to end. They will also allow for the renewal of vehicles over 18 years old. According to the file, the fleet improves in technical performance, road safety, and reduction of pollution, with the systems that regulations require from manufacturers.

This action is part of the 2019-2029 Firefighters Fleet Operational Plan, which has a total cost of €62 million and anticipates 124 vehicles. Of these, 25 are heavy, 43 are first response, nine are for heavy vehicle rescue, gondolas and auxiliary machinery, and another 47 for rescue and work at height, containers, and buses, among others.
